CII takes up Domestic Violence Bill, 2021 for discussion

ISLAMABAD: The Domestic Violence (Protection and Prevention) Bill, 2021 is up for discussion now at the Council of Islamic Ideological (CII) after Senate passed it with certain amendments and submitted it to the National Assembly.
The bill that extends to Islamabad Capital Territory aims to establish an effective service delivery, and create an enabling environment and facilitate women, children and any vulnerable person to freely play their desired roles in society.
The passage of the bill by the Senate with amendments opened a debate whether the bill should be referred to the CII or not. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) Senator Attaur Rehman opposed the bill, while Senator Mian Raza Rabbani presented some amendments, which were accepted and included in the bill.
The opposition said the future of over five million students of matric and intermediate’s first year was at stake as the students had failed to make preparations for examinations due to uncertainty in the government’s stance because of the Covid-19 situation. APP/File
ISLAMABAD: The opposition on Friday staged a walkout from the National Assembly after Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood rejected the opposition’s demand for delaying matriculation and intermediate examinations and announced that the examinations in the federal capital and provinces would begin from Saturday (today).

An in-camera session of the parliament was held Thursday wherein Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed briefed the political leadership on external and internal security issues and regional challenges, with special focus on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Afghanistan.
