Sindh assembly empowers child protection agency Authority can now take suo motu action on cases of violence against children KARACHI: The provincial assembly empowered the Sindh Child Protection Authority to take suo motu action on cases of abduction, rape, murder or any other kind of assault against children. The house passed a law to this effect in Friday s session in the wake of increasing crimes against children. The Sindh Child Protection Authority Act was originally passed in 2011, but it did not cover any preventive or curative measures. As a result, amendments and drastic changes were made to make the relevant authority more effective in protecting the children of Sindh.

This he said while presiding over a meeting at his office on Tuesday. Secretary Excise Taxation & Narcotics Control Department Ajaz Memon, directors general and other directors also attended the meeting. The minister warned that in case of failure to achieve the tax targets, departmental action would be taken against slacking officials. He asked the director general to strictly monitor the recovery of arrears of all taxes and submit a report in this regard. In the meeting, the performance of all regions was also reviewed in detail. The status of Prime Minister Delivery Performance Unit complaints on dashboard was also discussed.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla, who presented The Sindh Parliamentary Secretaries (Salaries, Allowances and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, said that the privileges and perks of the parliamentary secretaries were increased as their remuneration were nominal as compared to their counterparts of other provinces. He informed the house that a common lawmaker of Sindh Assembly got a sum of around Rs155,000 monthly but a parliamentary secretary receives an additional ‘nominal’ amount of approximately Rs25,000.

He said this while presiding over a meeting at his office here today. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Abdul Haleem Sheikh, Directors General Haji Saleem Bhutto, Munir Ahmed Zardari, Additional Director Nasir Affandi, all Regional Directors and concerned officers. The meeting reviewed the collection of taxes by December 2020 and measures to eradicate drugs in the province. He also directed to form a team to conduct internal audit of Motor Vehicle Wing. Issues related to excise check posts and excise police stations were also discussed in the meeting.
