An injured crew member on a commercial fishing vessel was rescued Thursday by Iberia Parish deputies.
According to a spokesperson, the IPSO Marine Division was contacted on July 8 at 2 p.m. regarding a commercial fishing vessel with a crew member who had a severe head injury. At the time of the call, the vessel was located 23 miles south of Marsh Island.
Due to weather conditions, the vessel began drifting west toward the Freshwater Bayou Locks in Vermilion Parish. At that time, IPSO deputies contacted the Vermilion Parish Sheriff s Office Marine Division for additional assistance, as well as Acadian Ambulance to be on standby at the Freshwater Bayou Locks dock.

NEW IBERIA - According to The Daily Iberian, an LSU student was shot and killed over the weekend.
The news outlet said 19-year-old Liam McDuff was killed at a party held Saturday (Dec. 12) at New Iberia s former Sugar Oaks Road horse barn. McDuff, a Catholic High New Iberia graduate who d become a member of LSU s Theta Xi and recently made the Dean s List, was on semester break and attending the party when a group of individuals who hadn t been invited showed up and apparently caused a disturbance.
According to The Daily Iberian, around 1 a.m., when asked to leave the party someone from the group fired a gun and a bullet hit McDuff.

Sugar cane farmers around the Teche Area are reporting an upsurge in bulky items illegally dumped in fields as the cane grows higher. Farmers are having to stop harvesting the crop to clear the trash from the fields and call parish and law enforcement officials, according to Teche Growers Association member Ricky Gonsoulin. Among the items the Iberia Parish Sheriffâs Office photographed in fields are a boat trailer, mattresses, furniture, tires and appliances such as washers and dryers. Those convicted of âgross litteringâ in Louisiana are subject to fines, community service and/or jail time, depending on the number of convictions.
