STAUNTON A woman reportedly armed with a handgun kept Augusta County authorities at bay during a standoff Tuesday that lasted several hours, a press release said.
After negotiations failed, shortly before 4 p.m. members of the Augusta County Sheriff s Office entered the home and ended the armed standoff.
County authorities were called out to the 700 block of Parkersburg Turnpike shortly before 9:30 a.m. to serve a court order and conduct a welfare check on the woman, who is in her 60s, the release said. Threats to shoot the deputies were made, and the woman barricaded herself inside the home, according to the press release.

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) - A criminal investigation is pending after an armed standoff in Augusta County.
According to the Augusta County Sheriffâs Office, deputies attempted to serve a court order and conduct a welfare check at a home along the 700 block of Parkersburg Turnpike on Tuesday.
Investigators said when deputies arrived, they made contact with the homeowner who was described as a woman in her 60â²s who was allegedly armed with a handgun and threatened to shoot deputies.
