PARKERSBURG A man was found dead inside a house that caught fire early Friday morning, Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said.
PARKERSBURG A man was found dead inside an apartment that burned early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:05 a.m. to a report of a smoke alarm at a one-bedroom apartment with someone inside at 2007 Nash St., a Parkersburg Housing Authority location, Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said.
They arrived at the scene four minutes later and focused first on rescue efforts, he said.
“When they got inside, the male victim was already deceased,” Matthews said.
Because the apartment’s doors and windows were shut, there was heavy smoke but minimal fire, he said. The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes, the chief said.

PARKERSBURG A fire was set Wednesday in a vacant house the Urban Renewal Authority voted the night before to acquire by eminent domain, Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said.
Firefighters were called to 1300 14th St. at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday. They arrived three minutes later and had the fire under control within 10 minutes, Matthews said.
The fire was the 29th this year at a vacant structure in the city. Some have been attributed to accidents resulting from cooking or heating fires started by people taking shelter inside, but the burn pattern on Wednesday indicated some type of accelerant was used to set the fire, Matthews said. Samples were taken to determine if that was the case.
