‘Streatery’ pilot launched in South Market neighborhood
New Orleans is testing whether closing a downtown street to traffic will help boost business for restaurants located there.
The “Streatery Pilot” closed the lakebound side of Girod Street between South Rampart Street and O’Keefe Avenue beginning Dec. 15. It will remain closed until Jan. 2, 2021.
Businesses alongside this stretch of Girod Street will be able to expand operations into the roadway during that time. A news release says no parking, loading zones or residential access points will be affected.

The pilot program’s partners include South Market developers The Domain Companies and the Downtown Development District, a news release said.
