GREAT BEND TRIBUNE One arrested after Sunday traffic stop nets suspected narcotics Garrett Buckbee
An Ellinwood man was arrested after Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered suspected narcotics during a traffic stop in Great Bend Sunday morning.
According to Sheriff Brian Bellendir, at about 9:53 a.m. Sunday, BCSO Deputy Sheriff Alexandria Mason stopped a white Chevy Malibu at 24th Street and Paseo Drive in Great Bend for a traffic infraction. During the course of the investigation, BCSO deputies became suspicious of illegal drug activity and a canine officer was called to the scene to assist. After further probable cause was developed, a search of the vehicle ensued, in which deputies located suspected methamphetamine, prescription drugs and paraphernalia. One individual, Garrett Buckbee, 24, of Ellinwood, was arrested at the scene.

Patrick Allen Doty on Thursday pleaded guilty in Barton County District Court to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, both level 3 person felonies under Kansas law.
Barton County Attorney Levi Morris said Doty was charged on Aug. 25, 2020, for acts that took place between Aug. 11 and Aug. 15. As a result of the convictions, Doty is now required to register as a sex offender. Depending on his criminal history, Doty’s sentence will be between 55 and 247 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for the conviction in count 1 while the conviction for count 2 could carry an additional 55 to 61 months.

Two men convicted of murder charges in separate Barton County cases were released to the Kansas Department of Corrections to begin their prison sentences Friday. Rusty Lee Frasier and Nicholas Pethtel were taken to the El Dorado Correctional Facility’s Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU). All male inmates start at the RDU, where they receive orientation and are assigned to a custody classification, appropriate programs and a permanent housing assignment.

Rusty Lee Frasier, 37, of Aransas Pass, Texas was released to the Kansas Department of Corrections Friday after being sentenced on Nov. 12 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 100 years in connection with the July 2018 premeditated murders of Alfred “Sonny” Carpenter and Pauline Carpenter, both of Wichita, during the Barton County Fair.
