The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP), while applauding the Ministry of Health for its “outstanding service through its efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic”, has also recommended that the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme be suspended for one day “to allow for an urgent evaluation of this important initiative”.
A statement from BARP today said there are three specific areas the group wants to be reviewed based on the 33 633 people vaccinated as of Friday, February 26, 2021.
What is the age breakdown of those vaccinated?
Is the Ministry of Health & Wellness satisfied that of the approximately 33 000 people (11.5 per cent of the population) over the age of 70 that an adequate number has been vaccinated?

Rastafari group ‘won’t take vaccine’

Government can count the Rastafari community out of any vaccination programme to be implemented in the coming days.
Furthermore, said the Rastafari Progressive Movement (RPM), should the targeted herd immunity numbers not be achieved, the Rastafari community should also be exempted from any form of “forced vaccination”.

Barbados TODAY , the RPM, asked that its position be respected.
“As Barbados gets ready to roll out its COVID-19 vaccine distribution programme, the Rastafari Progressive Movement (RPM) reiterates its stance that the Rastafari community will not be taking any COVID-19 vaccine,” it said.

All senior citizens are being asked to stay at home for the next three weeks, said Prime Minister Mia Mottley, after three elderly Barbadians died of coronavirus complications over the weekend.
As she addressed the nation on Tuesday from Ilaro Court about the current state of COVID-19, Mottley said it was incumbent on her administration and Barbadians at large to take great steps in protecting the elderly.
She said: “I welcome and endorse the appeal by the President of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons [BARP] in [the] papers today, for seniors and elders in the country to stay at home where ever practical and possible.
