LONDON – Captain Tom Moore, the British World War Two veteran who raised millions of pounds for health service workers on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19, died aged 100, his family said on Tuesday.
The family announced Sir Tom tested positive for COVID on Sunday and was hospitalised.
In December, he realised a lifelong dream when the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., in collaboration with British Airways, invited him to the island.
Below is a statement from Hannah and Lucy, daughters of Captain Sir Tom Moore:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear father, Captain Sir Tom Moore.
With remote working now a way of life for laptop-centric professionals the world-over, working from home in 2020 will give way to working-from-anywhere in 2021 and beyond.
Living an untethered existence that doesn’t rely on having to show up for work at an office (or even being in a specific city) means digital nomads can move around and conduct their business from anywhere with wifi.
Coupled with this has been a devastating drop-off in tourism, which means many countries around the world (particularly paradise destinations economically reliant on visitors) are doing everything they can to entice people from overseas.

The recent CDC testing requirement is the latest challenge facing the tourism industry in the Caribbean.
The bottom line for U.S. travelers vacationing in the Caribbean: After Jan. 26, proof of a negative Covid test (PCR or antigen) taken no more than three days prior to boarding their return flight to the U.S. will be required. Anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in the last three months must show documentation of recovery, which includes proof of the positive test and a letter from a healthcare provider providing clearance to travel.
The test requirement will likely send some vacationers scrambling to find testing locations, and then anxiously await results, instead of spending their last days in the islands relaxing on the white-sand beaches.
COVID-19 rapid testing will be available at Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory from Tuesday for people travelling to the United Kingdom.
