Three of the most precious elements of a thriving democracy are the freedom of expression, the freedom of association and the freedom of movement. These are rights which Barbadians would do well to protect and not allow their political alliances to cloud their judgement when they see these rights being usurped.
The advent of COVID-19 has seen the curtailment or denial of the right of association and movement by Government under managed circumstances, as a means to fight against the spread of the coronavirus. I support this Government’s efforts to fight the pandemic and if certain restrictions of these rights are necessary and permissible by law, then I am completely supportive of the Mia Mottley administration.

Queen’s Counsel Hal Gollop has accused the current Barbados Labour Party administration of “picking out some [shops] and shutting down others” in the measures it put in place to halt the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
He made the submissions as he wrapped up his arguments in the No. 12 Supreme Court yesterday.
“I would say the lesson must be sent abroad that the separation of powers doctrine is alive and well and the scrutiny of Parliament, the sovereignty of Parliament, must remain as a guiding principle of our democracy,” he declared.
Gollop and attorney Neil Marshall are representing trade unionist and Opposition Senator Caswell Franklyn, as well as businessmen Benson Straker and Adrian Kellman, who have brought constitutional motions against the Attorney General challenging the emergency management protocols.
