Moore gives guidance on vacation leave during pandemic

Moore gives guidance on vacation leave during pandemic Article by January 30, 2021 As the start of a 15-day lockdown approaches, General Secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Toni Moore is reminding workers that only by agreement between themselves and their employers are they expected to proceed on annual holiday where less than 14 days has been given. In a statement, Moore said although employees may not be forced to proceed on vacation with less than 14 days notice, they may, through or after discussion with the employer, be convinced of the value in agreeing to use the mandatory period of tightened restriction for vacation purposes.

Statement from BWU General Secretary Toni Moore

Statement from BWU General Secretary Toni Moore Article by January 30, 2021 If we were to describe this COVID-19 pandemic in three words, they would be complex, fluid and uncertain.  It has forced many countries around the world to make a number of critical decisions and many difficult trade-offs on the analysis of their health, economic and social systems.  These trade-offs are occurring in a very fluid environment, and it is not hyperbole to suggest that it is creating massive uncertainty. We would never argue that there is no place for an expanded number of trade unions. There is nothing wrong with choice. But after seven decades of stellar contributions to workers’ rights and empowerment, it is sad to witness the BWU’s apparent diminishing standing.
