Legendary former West Indies captain Sir Vivian Richards and former Barbados and England opener Roland Butcher have sent words of advice to promising Guyanese and West Indies middle-order batsman Shimron Hetmyer.
An overweight and unfit Hetmyer has not featured for the West Indies side in recent times, and despite his abundance of talent, both retired players suggested he is failing to fulfil his true potential.
Richards called on Hetmyer to take a more mature approach to cricket in order to realise and maximise his full potential. The iconic former batsman fondly referred to as the ‘Master Blaster’ said that any failure by Hetmyer to do justice to his ability would be a great loss not just to the West Indies, but to the sport as a whole.

One of the things Dr Rudolph Alleyne, Head of the Sports Academy at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, would like to see, is that institution becoming an official high-performance centre in the Caribbean.
Alleyne who has been part of the academy since 2013 also believes that a national training centre could be realised as well if the academy partners with the government, sporting federations and the Barbados Olympic Association.
“One of my goals, when I was at Temple University finishing off my first degree, was to find a way where we can assist our athletes here in Barbados. When I say assist, allowing them to sharpen their skills, and their ability to perform particularly at the highest level.

St John’s – Cricket West Indies (CWI) president, Ricky Skerritt, has hailed the release of a CWI annual report for 2020 for the first time in several years, and says the 36-page document is geared towards strengthening CWI’s relationship with stakeholders.
The release of the annual report follows the annual general meeting held on April 11, at which Skerritt and vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow were re-elected for a second two-year term.
CWI said the report was a “comprehensive” one which outlined the progress of the Cricket First policy, undertaken by Skerritt at the start of his first term in 2019, after defeating three-term incumbent Dave Cameron.
