RALEIGH, N.C., May 13, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) Christine “Chris” Young, Central North Carolina Region Executive at First Citizens Bank in Raleigh, will retire effective June 1, 2021, after more than 18 years with the company and a 35-year banking career. Upon her departure, Region Executive Shan Teel will assume leadership of the bank’s Central North Carolina Region in addition to continuing to oversee the bank’s Eastern North Carolina Region markets.

After every mass violence incident, Barbara Thompson sees a pattern.
“You almost always hear that the people think that there was something wrong that this person had a mental illness,” said Thompson, who is the executive director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Indiana. “And so it becomes something really difficult for people who are experiencing mental health conditions to feel like maybe they re being connected somehow to these tragic events.”
Ray Lay is one of those individuals who feels the brunt of this stigma.

Teamsters 53 endorses Thomson for judge
Barbara Thomson, a Democratic candidate for Municipal Court, was endorsed by Teamsters Joint Council 53.
“During college summers, the hardest job I had was when I worked construction as a laborer. I loved those jobs because the people treated me so well. I will never forget those relationships. They enforced the values of respect and compassion I was raised with,” Thomson said. “We watched out for each other.”
Thomson is one of four candidates running for three seats. ••
