Facebook revenue almost doubled: Here’s what it means for advertisers
In addition to a decrease in overall metrics, some marketers reported a decline in the performance of lookalike audiences.

Earnings reports released on Wednesday show that Facebook nearly doubled its Q1 earnings compared to last year. Revenue from advertising was up 146% compared to 2020 while daily active users only increased 8%.
The increase was driven largely by an uptick in ad prices, according to the CFO outlook commentary on the earnings report: “We are pleased with the strength of our advertising revenue growth in the first quarter of 2021, which was driven by a 30% year-over-year increase in the average price per ad and a 12% increase in the number of ads delivered.”
200,000 free cinema tickets offered for National Lottery Cinema Weekend
The free tickets will be available at more than 500 multiplexes and independent cinemas around the UK on the weekend of 19 and 20 June.

National Lottery Cinema Weekend, in partnership with the BFI, will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 June at more than 500 cinema sites across the UK (pending confirmation that restrictions will be relaxed as planned). Cinema Weekend will make over 200,000 free tickets available to watch any film screening across the weekend, as a thank you to National Lottery players for their vital contribution to film.
Through the BFI, the National Lottery supports new and established filmmakers, film education and training, as well as enabling the UK public to see a wide range of films. National Lottery Cinema Weekend is an expansion on two previous Cinema Days (in 2018 and 2019), which enables players to access cinemas for free.

Last week Apple announced its plans to integrate a paid podcasts subscription program, effectively kicking off the podcast wars. Now, Spotify has responded with the announcement of its own podcast subscription set up.

Spotify’s paid podcast system is fairly similar to Apple’s in that it allows content creators to set their own prices to receive revenue. Subscribers will also be required to subscribe to individual shows of their choosing rather than a bundle fee.
