JANESVILLE
Blackhawk Technical Collegeâs Central Campus between Beloit and Janesville will host Wisconsinâs first community-based COVID-19 vaccination clinic starting Tuesday.
The clinic is intended to reach underserved residents and those who do not have health insurance.
Gov. Tony Evers traveled to Rock County on Wednesday to make the announcement.
âThe fact is that in Rock County, Walworth County and Green County there are lots of folks who arenât part of a health system or donât have health insurance,â Evers said. âWe want to make sure that this site is a home for these people.â
Evers toured the vaccination clinic with officials from the Rock County Public Health Department and AMI Expeditionary Healthcareâthe company tasked with operating the site and distributing vaccines.
JANESVILLE
The Rock County Public Health Department is working on a COVID-19 vaccine registration tool for those not included in eligible vaccine groups, Rock County Vaccine Coordinator Alison Chouinard said Thursday.
Chouinard said plans are in place to make online registration available soon.
âWe have plans in place to reach future groups as state guidance changes,â Chouinard said.
Health department officials answered questions Thursday during its first weekly COVID-19 update news conference. The news conferences will be streamed live on the health departmentâs Facebook page.
Because of the size of the vaccination groups now eligible, the state advisory committee tasked with naming eligible groups has paused meetings until rollout to adults 65 and older progresses, DHS Deputy Secretary Julie Willems Van Dijk said earlier this week on a call with reporters.
HealthNet and Community Health Systems began vaccinating people 65 and older last week, representatives said.
Both clinics offer services to low-income, underinsured and uninsured individuals. HealthNet is a free and charitable clinic. Community Health Systems is a federally qualified clinic.
HealthNet started vaccinating patients Jan. 27 and has so far vaccinated about 130 people, HealthNet CEO Ian Hedges said.
Community Health Systems started last week vaccinating its own patient population ages 65 and older, said Stephen Smith, chief operations officer, in an email to The Gazette.
Vaccinations at Community Health Systems have started on a limited basis but will be ramping up each week. The system hopes to offer vaccines daily within the next three to four weeks, Smith said.
