On the Monday after Christmas, the Rock Island County Health Department reported 12 additional COVID-19 deaths in the county, growing the total death count to 243. This is the largest number of deaths reported in one day, but health department CEO Janet Hill said this is because of a delay in reporting due to the holiday weekend.

The Taxslayer Center in Moline hosted another weekend of free Covid-19 testing, as health officials try to get ahead of a post-holiday surge. But turnout was down from previous testing opportunities.  Only 142 people were tested at the site on Saturday, Dec. 26 - significantly down from the 517 people who received a test just three weeks prior, on Dec. 5. Still, workers at the site are hopeful that those numbers will climb back up now that the holidays are over.
