Jay VFW post to hold fundraising dinner
JAY Jay Post 3335, VFW, will hold a fundraiser dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, consisting of a third rack of ribs with sauce, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert.
Proceeds from the drive-thru dinner will go toward assisting the post meet expenses during its closure since March, due to COVID-19. Meals can be preordered by calling 207-897-2122.
Jay ski, snowshoe trails are open
JAY The cross country ski and snowshoe trails are open at French Falls Park and the Jay Recreation Area. Volunteers maintain the trails.

Army secretary addresses report of Fort Hood Independent Review Committee
Secretary of the Army Ryan D. McCarthy and the five civilian members of the Fort Hood Independent Review Committee unveiled the results of a three-month examination of the command climate and culture at Fort Hood and the surrounding military community on Dec. 8. Fort Hood has garnered international attention after 28 soldiers assigned to the post died in the past year. The most prominent was Spc. Vanessa Guillen’s alleged murder by a fellow soldier who then died by suicide.

Somerville, MA (December 19, 2020) In a student-wide referendum on November 24th, 2020 led by Tufts Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), the Tufts student body voted overwhelmingly to End the Deadly Exchange at Tufts. The ‘Deadly Exchange’ refers to US Police Departments’ participation in trips taken to Israel in which high ranking officials train with the Israeli military, police, and security forces to exchange ‘worst practices.’
Considers requiring anti-bias education because black activists demanded it
The University of South Florida is exploring a required anti-bias training for all new students in response to a demand from its Black Student Union.
“USF’s Dean of Students Office is considering the purchase of a module on anti-bias from the education technology company EverFi as a requirement for incoming USF students,” the student paper
The Oracle reported. The public university currently requires new students to take EverFi courses on financial literacy, alcohol and sexual assault.
Emmanuel Harvey, the president of the Black Student Union, said his group has been advising the administration on racial issues.
