Solano Board of Supervisors stands up for victims of crime, sexual assault
FAIRFIELD Solano County supervisors on Tuesday adopted resolutions recognizing April 18-24 as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Solano County and the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Supervisor Monica Brown emphasized not only the emotional toll caused by crime, but the monetary costs as well.
“. . . (A)nnually, rape costs the U.S. more than any other crime ($127 billion), followed by assault ($93 billion), murder ($71 billion), and drunk driving, including fatalities ($61 billion),” the resolution states.
District Attorney Krishna Abrams noted that while protecting defendants’ rights and justice reform are important, she said it is critical never to forget the crime victims.
Indiana County Commissioners received updates on the Covid-19 situation in the county at their meeting this morning
Indiana County Emergency Management Director Tom Stutzman said that over the past few weeks, the county’s Covid-19 positive case and hospitalization numbers have increased to levels not seen since this January, during a large spike in the number of cases. Stutzman added that this is on par with other areas of the state over the last few weeks, and in Indiana county, the increases were not dramatic

MILLER COUNTY, Ark. (KSLA) - April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Arkansas law makers have taken a step to try and alleviate some of the trauma for victims of sexual assault.
Earlier this week, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson made Senate Bill 308 a law. On hand for the signing was Amy Stanley of Texarkana. Stanley was among those working to push the bill through the state legislature.
“SB 308 took the power and gave it to the survivor,” said Stanley.

According to the resolution designating the special month, “one in six American women will experience sexual assault in her lifetime, and anyone can be a victim of sexual abuse, regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or economic status.”
