DVIDS - News - Thunder Stripes Builds Character, Trust, and Resilience during Senior NCO Challenge

27 SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii –The 25th Infantry Division Artillery held a three-day series of tactical events for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers from April 6-8, 2021, on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, which was designed to build cohesive teams by elevating these key leaders’ physical and mental toughness, camaraderie, and commitment to the organization and the Army values. The challenge, envisioned and coined “Thunder Stripes” by the Command Sgt. Maj. Paul Fluharty, senior enlisted leader, 25th DIVARTY, aimed to build character, trust, and resilience through shared hardship while reinforcing senior noncommissioned officers’ responsibility to protect Soldiers by preventing sexual assault, and reflecting on the impact and prevalence of these harmful behaviors within our formation.

Exhibit explores common myths of sexual violence

Fifth in a series of stories during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. An exhibit that explores common myths associated with sexual violence currently is on display at Baptist Health Hardin in Eliza­bethtown. The exhibit, titled “What Were You Wearing?,” is meant to raise awareness and challenge the myth that sexual violence is provoked by a victim’s clothing. The hospital is hosting the exhibit in partnership with Silverleaf Sexual Trauma Recovery Services of Elizabethtown, Baptist Health Hardin nurse and SANE/Forensic program manager Sarah Tovar said the idea for the installation originated at the Uni­ver­sity of Arkansas. Stu­dent survivors of sexual assault, through interviews, shared their stories and what they were wearing when they were assaulted. From there, an installation was created that featured clothes resembling what the students described and their story of what happened.
