Sanctuary, Incorporated is putting out the word about Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in April with events and outreach initiatives.
The focus of this year’s outreach is teaching about the importance of consent in all relationships, with Community Educator Carrie Norvell saying there will be events throughout the month, including Wear Denim Day on April 28 and the Chalk the Walk event on April 23. She says they’ll also be putting out more information on ‘self-care kits’ that will be handed out through the public libraries across the region.

ALPENA Hope Shores Alliance is asking our community to share in honoring this April as the 20th anniversary of the National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. To commemorate, HSA is focusing on social media engagement as part of the national campaign, “Building Safe Online Spaces,” through an interactive social media campaign with the community along with a collaborative awareness event with Alpena Community College.

Ohio University is hosting several events in conjunction with Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
As part of the “SayHerName: Building Community to Support Women of Color at OHIO” initiative, Ohio University will host a discussion and letter writing campaign to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence who are incarcerated.
The event, which is organized by the Ohio University Women’s Center, will be held on Wednesday, April 21 from noon to 1 p.m. To participate, register online at least two days prior to the event.
