Focused efforts are continuing to help undocumented workers and latinos access the coronavirus vaccines.
News Channel 3’s Dani Romero has more on the new strategic vaccine effort now initiated in the East Valley.
The push continues here in the Coachella Valley to get undocumented workers vaccinated.
“We know that we have great disparities between the East and the West, said Conrado Barzaga, CEO of Desert Healthcare District Foundation. We have to apply the definition of equity, which is giving everyone a fair chance at being healthy.”
Both the state and the county have been worked hard to make vaccines equitable throughout the pandemic.
Dr. Conrado Bárzaga, CEO of the Desert Healthcare District & Foundation, said earlier this month that district sites were testing "easily 200 to 400 people" every weekend, but have recently been "struggling to get to 100 people getting tested."
Timothy Ray Brown Virtual Memorial Service
Timothy Ray Brown is considered to be the first person cured of HIV. Known initially as “The Berlin Patient,” he dedicated his life to supporting HIV cure research after being cured of HIV following two stem cell transplants, which were done to treat acute myeloid leukemia. Timothy traveled to conferences around the world and inspired researchers, activists and people living with HIV with his story. Sadly, Timothy’s cancer returned last year, and he passed away on September 29, 2020. He was 54.
There will be a virtual memorial service for Timothy on Feburary 16 his “cure” birthday. Speakers will include his partner Tim Hoeffgen, Dr. Nichole Klatt, Dr. Thomas Hope, Dr. Jonah Sacha, Dr. Paula Cannon, Jeff Taylor and Michael Louella.

San Francisco & Palm Springs, Feb. 10, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) A consortium HIV/AIDS organizations have launched the Timothy Ray Brown “The Berlin Patient” Memorial Campaign (TRB Memorial Campaign), a community effort to memorialize Brown’s journey and life. The consortium will raise funds for a memorial boulder with a touching inscription in the National AIDS Memorial Grove in San Francisco and a memorial bench and plaque in Wellness Park adjacent to the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
