Televisions, laptops, and tablets have been in high demand during the Covid-19 pandemic, as people worked and learned via Zoom, socialized over Skype, and binged on Netflix to alleviate the lockdown blues. But all that extra screen time also helped set in motion a semiconductor supply crunch that is causing prices for some gadgets to spikeâstarting with TVs.
In recent months, the price of larger TV models has shot up around 30 percent compared to last summer, according to market research company NPD. The jump is a direct result of the current chip crisis, and underscores that a fix is more complicated than simply ramping up production. It may also be only a matter of time before other gadgets that use the same circuitryâlaptops, tablets, and VR headsets among themâexperience similar sticker shock.
Before they passed, they had the fire to lead

The title “Fire Chief” means something in Pembroke.
Tradition and loyalty and roots come to mind, for a role that’s been served by just two people – Dick Chase and Harold Paulsen – over the past 32 years.
Sadly, both died this month, within five days of one another Chase on April 7, at the age of 86, and Paulsen, 77, on the 12th.
Their obituaries said they passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. The new chief, Paul Gagnon, is no stranger to an institution that writes its own story in small towns across the country.
