Perham area students win VFW essay contest

Three Perham students have moved onto the next level of the VFW essay contest. Written By: RosaLin Alcoser | 8:08 am, Jan. 2, 2021 Three Perham area students who entered the Veterans of Foreign War Fall essay contest have advanced to the next level in the contest put on by the VFW Auxiliary Post 420. The Auxiliary hosted three different essay contest. Voice of Democracy for students in grades ninth through 12th grades, Patriot’s Pen for students in grades sixth through eighth, and a fifth-grade essay contest. “It’s a competition and gives the students an opportunity to voice their opinions on their responsibilities to our country,” VFW Auxiliary Post 420 Youth Activities Coordinator Nancy Schmitz said. “And their thought on a given topic.”

St Paul s Advent Vespers service continues on

St. Paul’s Lutheran School had their annual Advent Vespers Service virtually this past Wednesday, Dec. 9. The Iowa Department of Education recently adopted new fine arts standards for music focused on the artistic processes of creating, performing, responding, and connecting. “Our music program here at St. Paul’s is outstanding and our Advent Vespers performance demonstrates all of those components, even with the restrictions due to Covid,” said Tamela Johnson, principal of St. Paul’s Lutheran School. Throughout the fall singing has been considered a “high-risk” activity. Knowing this, Katie Idler, the music teacher at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, has taken careful consideration in all the activities she has done with her students. St Paul s students tour Holy Land with virtual reality gear | News, Sports, Jobs

Teacher Pastor Rob Guenther called the event “an immersive, multi-sensory experience” for students using the headset and for others who watched it mirrored on a classroom screen. NEW ULM St. John’s Lutheran Church Pastor Rob Guenther recently began experimenting with virtual reality (VR) equipment in his catechism classroom at St. Paul’s Lutheran School. With the rapid advancement of technology, he hopes to be on the front end of finding ways to use VR for education. He said over time, the cost of the technology will drop while quality improves.
