Auto stocks were trading in the negative zone, with the S&P BSE Auto index falling 9.52 points or 0.04% at 23858.62 at 13:49 IST. Among the components of the S&P BSE Auto index, Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd (down 6.76%), Bajaj Auto Ltd (down 1%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (down 0.59%), and Balkrishna Industries Ltd (down 0.42%), were the top losers. On the other hand, Escorts Ltd (up 4.81%), Eicher Motors Ltd (up 2.67%), and Amara Raja Batteries Ltd (up 1.79%) moved up.
At 13:49 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 199.79 or 0.39% at 52049.27.
The Nifty 50 index was up 65.8 points or 0.42% at 15642.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 291.16 points or 1.22% at 24117.28.

Bajaj Auto Ltd rose 2.74% today to trade at Rs 4304.3. The S&P BSE Auto index is up 0.81% to quote at 23732.13. The index is up 9.53 % over last one month. Among the other constituents of the index, TVS Motor Company Ltd increased 1.29% and Balkrishna Industries Ltd added 1.29% on the day. The S&P BSE Auto index went up 63.16 % over last one year compared to the 56.17% surge in benchmark SENSEX.
Bajaj Auto Ltd has added 12.35% over last one month compared to 9.53% gain in S&P BSE Auto index and 6.61% rise in the SENSEX. On the BSE, 3456 shares were traded in the counter so far compared with average daily volumes of 35381 shares in the past one month. The stock hit a record high of Rs 4361.2 on 04 Feb 2021. The stock hit a 52-week low of Rs 2580.15 on 12 Jun 2020.

MUMBAI, India While India is in the grip of a second wave of COVID-19, a sampling of tire makers in the country say operations continue to run smoothly.
Even with the dire pandemic statistics coming out of the world s second-most populated country, Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT), Ceat Ltd., and Sun Tyre & Wheel Systems all report operations continue.
Sun-TWS reported operations at 100 percent capacity while BKT said operations are running smoothly with an average of 95 percent capacity. Ceat, meanwhile, said it is following all safety protocols and running at optimum capacity.
Auto stocks were trading with gains, with the S&P BSE Auto index increasing 87.31 points or 0.37% at 23509.09 at 09:49 IST. Among the components of the S&P BSE Auto index, Tata Motors Ltd (up 1.93%), Bosch Ltd (up 1.66%),Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd (up 0.85%),Bajaj Auto Ltd (up 0.67%),Eicher Motors Ltd (up 0.45%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Ashok Leyland Ltd (up 0.36%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd (up 0.31%), MRF Ltd (up 0.29%), and Balkrishna Industries Ltd (up 0.23%). On the other hand, Exide Industries Ltd (down 1.34%), TVS Motor Company Ltd (down 0.87%), and Escorts Ltd (down 0.85%) turned lower.
At 09:49 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 14.55 or 0.03% at 51002.97.
