Ford's Theatre today announced the launch of The Lincoln Legacy Commissions a new play development initiative for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) playwrights that explores racial history and social justice in the United States and gives voice to lesser-known historical figures and their contributions to American life. Playwrights Pearl Cleage, Rickerby Hinds, Nambi E. Kelley, Dominic Taylor and Charlayne Woodard comprise the inaugural writers of The Lincoln Legacy Commissions.

La Jolla Playhouse will return to live onsite programming Thursday, June 3, kicking off a nine-month season of events that will include three world premieres, a free weekend of Without Walls Festival shows, a new play series and a mix of online theatrical shows for adults and children.
Among the season highlights will be the premieres, presented in a three-show subscription that includes two plays by celebrated authors and a new musical.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced its return to live, in-person theatre with several exciting upcoming projects. This summer, the Playhouse will offer two on-site events: the Without Walls (WOW) production of A Thousand Ways (Part 2): An Encounter, by 600 Highwaymen, running June 3 - 20; and the 2021 DNA New Works Series, featuring readings of four new plays over the weekends of July 22 - 25 and July 29 - August 1. The Playhouse will also present a special Pop-Up WOW event featuring five short, Playhouse-commissioned Without Walls works, taking place August 14 - 15 at ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station.

Set in Brooklyn,
Thoughts of a Colored Man follows seven Black men as they fom a brotherhood by sharing their feelings and stories. The production blends traditional prose with spoken word, slam poetry and comedy into a multi-generational play.
The ensemble cast stars Forrest McClendon, previously nominated for a Tony Award for
The Scottsboro Boys. Keith David also stars, best known for
Greenleaf and
Jelly’s Last Jam. Dyllón Burnside, Bryan Terrell Clark, Da’Vinchi, Luke James and Tristan “Mack” Wilds complete the line up.
