Professional hot air balloon pilots from all over the country will gather May 7-9 for the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival in Foley. Now in its 17th year, the weekend event expects to draw 100,000 visitors to its new setting at OWA amusement park.
“We love the Gulf Coast area. We love the town of Foley,” said Tom Warren, a balloon pilot based in Pasco County, just north of Tampa. “The people that put on the event are absolutely awesome people.”
Warren will be piloting his shaped balloon “Laska the Unicorn” along with dozens of other invited balloonists.
“We do it for the crowds, for the fun of it,” he said. “Because it’s a unicorn the kids go nuts.”

The Wharf entertainment district is celebrating its 15th year with near 100% capacity, and is boasting record-breaking occupancy numbers over the spring.
OWA, an amusement park and entertainment complex in Foley, saw record attendance and sales across the board this spring, according to a spokeswoman. The venue will welcome a waterpark this summer.
Coastal restaurants were packed during the spring break season, from early March through mid-April. They are expected to be even busier this summer.
Indeed, business is booming at Alabama’s biggest tourism draw its beaches. At the same time, a labor shortage within the hospitality sector is creating an obstacle and a potential pitfall for the region.

BAY MINETTE, Alabama The North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce celebrated another year in the books at the 76th Annual Meeting and Dinner, a Starlit Soiree, at the John F. Rhodes Civic Center in Bay Minette.
