Car loads of people blocked off the entrance to Hull Place on Sunday, shooting at a home in the cul-de-sac. Police arrived shortly after the gun was discharged, blocking off the road and interviewing those trapped in the dead-end street. “It was a good response from them. They did what they could do.”
Stuff understands it was a gang-related incident.
Martin De Ruyter/Stuff Initially a police media spokeswoman said no one was hurt in the shooting. However, a seriously injured man arrived at Palmerston North Hospital shortly after the incident with gunshot wounds, but they were not life-threatening, she said.
“The project is meeting deadlines and we are in the process of recruiting a project manager who will oversee the construction phase.” Caldwell said the board would be in a position to give a more accurate estimate of the construction time frames once the final design was confirmed. She had previously said design work, by CCM Architects, started in February. The Government in 2020 said the new ward would have 28 beds – the present ward has 24 with “capacity” for 28 – and construction would finish in the second half of 2022. It will cost up to $35 million. The Crown has approved $30m and MidCentral a contingency fund of $5m.
Palmerston North Hospital is admitting between 10 and 20 babies a day with respiratory illnesses, including RSV. “Although some of the very young children can get severe illness, the majority of people have more mild illness and should manage themselves at home rather than try and rush in for an appointment. “Fever, cough with some yellow or green phlegm, [a] sore throat and feeling miserable are very common symptoms of the infection, but they seldom need any treatment.” Palmerston North Hospital operations executive for healthy, women, children and youth Sarah Fenwick said the Midcentral District Health Board was experiencing a significant increase in babies and children presenting with respiratory illnesses, including RSV.
