Firefighters worked into the night to free a person trapped in their car after a serious crash near Marton. Emergency services were called to help two people following a single-car crash at the intersection of Pukepapa Rd and State Highway 3, Lake Alice at, 9.50pm on Wednesday. Marton’s volunteer fire brigade arrived to find one person was trapped in their vehicle after it had rolled in the “fairly nasty” crash, Fire and Emergency spokesman Carlos Dempsey said. The other person was out of the vehicle.

Fire Service NZ spokeswoman Belinda Beets​ said firefighters had to extract one person from the wrecked vehicles, but most had managed to escape themselves.
