PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. - Pasquotank County Sheriff s Office provided updates in a video statement Saturday after the family of Andrew Brown and protesters call for body camera footage of the fatal shooting involving a deputy.
Pasquotank County Sheriff Wooten says that the office wants the bodycam footage of the shooting to be made public, but says that it is not the office s decision.
Sheriff Wooten emphasized that only a judge can release the video. He says that he has asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to confirm that its release will not undermine their investigation.

(ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.) The community and family of a Black man fatally shot by a deputy executing arrest and search warrants in North Carolina earlier this week are calling for the body camera footage capturing the incident to be released.
Andrew Brown Jr., 42, was killed as deputies from the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve the warrants at his home in Elizabeth City on Wednesday morning. Details of what led to the shooting have not been released by authorities. Deputies were serving warrants related to felony drug charges when the shooting occurred, the sheriff’s office said.
In a Facebook video posted Saturday afternoon, Pasquotank County, N.C., Sheriff Tommy Wooten II said his office wants the body camera footage related to the killing of Andrew Brown Jr. to be made public.
His statement comes three days after Andrew Brown Jr., a 42-year-old Black man, was shot and killed by Pasquotank County Sheriff s Office deputies in Elizabeth City. The events were captured by the deputies body cameras. I ve asked the State Bureau of Investigation to confirm for me that the releasing of the video will not undermine their investigation, said Wooten. Once I get that confirmation, our county will file a motion in court, hopefully Monday, to have the footage released.
