Seven sheriff’s deputies have been placed on leave, and the governor of North Carolina is calling for the release of body-camera footage after deputies shot and killed a Black man on Wednesday, the authorities said.

Seven North Carolina police officers are on leave after they were involved in the killing of a 42-year-old Black man Wednesday.
Cops fatally shot Andrew Brown Jr. on Wednesday morning outside his home in Elizabeth City. He was driving away from the officers, according to a neighbor who witnessed the shooting.
Exactly how many officers with the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office fired at Brown remains unknown, but authorities said all seven cops now on leave were at Brown’s house that morning to serve a search warrant, the Associated Press reported.

Jim Acosta commented that protesters in Elizabeth City, NC had been marching peacefully for several days, to urge the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office to release the video. Brown, age 42, was shot and killed outside his home while deputies attempted to execute a warrant for his arrest.
