Males accounted for 81 per cent of those excess deaths, and B.C. and Alberta led the nation. B.C. recorded 260 excess deaths among men in this age group, while Alberta reported 298. If the cause were COVID-19, these figures would make no sense, since by far the highest death rate occurs in elderly patients. The average age of dying from COVID is 85. In fact, the virus was not responsible for most of those excess fatalities. Specifically, nationwide, there were fewer than 50 COVID-19 fatalities in people under the age of 45. The real cause of those excess deaths in younger people, and particularly in men, was drug overdose.
In Canada, the IHRA definition has begun to stifle pro-Palestinian voices
It is no coincidence that the IHRA definition of antisemitism is being advanced in Canada amidst an increasingly hostile environment toward critics of Israel.

In 2019, under the guise of combating racism and bigotry, Canada adopted the highly problematic definition of antisemitism promulgated by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which conflates political criticism of the state of Israel with anti-Jewish bigotry.
Under this working definition, legitimate critiques of Israel and its policies, such as “claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavor,” may be condemned as antisemitic. Many critics have rightly warned that these provisions threaten the free speech rights of Canadians and will likely be used to silence criticism of Israel.
VANCOUVER Representatives from three different churches in B.C. s Fraser Valley have been handed a combined $18,400 in fines for violating public health orders. The eight $2,300 tickets stem from gatherings held at the various churches over the first two Sundays in December. Authorities haven t released the names or locations of the places of worship, but said Chilliwack RCMP officers dealt with each incident. In a news release, the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment said police worked with provincial and regional health officials in the education and enforcement of current COVID-19 health regulations to attain the compliance of the congregations.
VANCOUVER Ethel Lee, 95, will spend Christmas alone, quarantined in her room in a Surrey long-term care facility after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. “That takes us right through Christmas that she’ll be locked in her room,” says Lee s daughter, Brenda Howard. Howard is part of a group of families with loved ones in care who are frustrated with pandemic visitor restrictions. They say the B.C. government and health officials aren’t listening to their concerns so they’ve hired a lawyer. They believe the restrictions are violating seniors’ rights and the B.C. Civil Liberties Association is supporting them.
