Iowa COVID-19 Deaths Soar
Iowa s COVID-19 related deaths took their biggest jump ever on Sunday, as data released showed that 250 more Iowans died from the virus. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Iowa s total of coronavirus fatalities stands at 4,901.
The Gazette reports that the data released on Sunday does not show over what length of time the new deaths were reported, but the Associated Press reports that the deaths include many from December and January. But the new addition by itself is more than the total number of COVID related deaths recorded in Iowa in six of the last 10 months.
A mother will do anything for her young. It goes for humans, and it goes for cats. We got to meet this sweet lady this week on Furry Friday, and her name is
Eddamamma. This loving cat gave birth to a litter of kittens, and watched them all get adopted and head to new homes. Meanwhile, mom is still at SAINT Cat Rescue in Cedar Rapids patiently waiting for someone to come and take her home.
Eddamamma is a sweet, tiger striped cat with big loving green eyes. They stare right into your soul, as if asking you, why don t you take me home? She gets along with other cats just fine. She is a bit shy to newcomers, but once she warms up, she s your friend for life. And she s an empty nester! All her kids have left and gone to other homes, so she is left alone to spend her time waiting for someone to come and adopt her!
One look at our
Furry Friday dog Lucy, and you probably have a pretty good guess at her breed. Yes, Lucy has some Siberian Husky in her and boy does it show! She is absolutely gorgeous! Lucy is currently at Dogs Forever in Cedar Rapids, but not for long. This girl is destined to be adopted soon!
Lucy is around 1 year old and is a Husky/Shephard mix. She is a very loving dog and so far has gotten along with other dogs at the shelter and everyone she s met. But as Jessica with Dogs Forever explained to us, she needs someone special to take care of her. Someone who is familiar with the challenges that a Husky can bring. The breed is known for being very active, so Lucy needs an active family! Someone that will go on tons of walks and play around in a fence back yard. Lets talk about that fence, shall we? Huskies are also known to be escape artists so make sure that fence is six feet high and in good shape.
2020 the Second Warmest Year on Record
2020 was quite the year for a number of different reasons. There were more billion dollar weather disaster than ever before, including the derecho here in Iowa back in August. Hurricanes and wildfires also did their share of damage too. One thing that officials say makes these extreme weather events more likely is the continuing rise in the Earth s overall temperature. CBS2 reports that new data from the NOAA and NASA find that 2020 was the second warmest year on record.
Overall, the Earth s temperature rose by 1.76F in 2020. That was good for the 5th warmest year nationwide on record. The warmest spots last year included the northeast, and the desert southwest. California saw it s worst wildfire season ever recorded. So what about the state of Iowa?
