75-year-old woman charged in Pittsylvania County shooting She faces two charges in connection with the incident Published:  Tags:  HENRY COUNTY Va. – Authorities arrested a woman they believe shot someone Thursday morning. At 8:35 a.m., members of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1800 block of Ringgold Road for a reported shooting. Investigators arrived and charged Peggy Brewer, 75, with malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both she and the victim were taken by ambulance to be treated at a hospital. After being treated and released from the hospital, Brewer was taken into custody and is now at the Pittsylvania County Jail.

Pittsylvania County assists with Wal-Mart bomb threat investigation

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — On May 16, 2021, at approximately 2:34 pm, a bomb threat was called into Wal-Mart located at 976 Commonwealth Blvd., Martinsville. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office Explosives Detection Canine, along with canines from the Virginia State Police, Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Tech Police Department conducted a systematic search of the property.  Nothing suspicious was located. Through the course of the investigation, it was discovered Keegan Blaise Ashbrook and Ricky Lee Stout traveled to Wal-Mart together then entered the store. At approximately 2:25 pm, Wal-Mart staff detained Keegan Blaise Ashbrook for shoplifting. Moments after Ashbrook was detained, Wal-Mart received the bomb threat.

Chatham Rotary Club to host hometown celebration, fireworks

CHATHAM, Va. — The Chatham Rotary Club is planning a Hometown Celebration in and around Chatham for the 4th of July weekend. This new weekend of festivities will be highlighted by Friday evening fireworks on July 2 and a flag-filled Field of Honor at the Old Dominion Agricultural Complex to honor local hometown heroes, from military veterans to first responders, as well as beloved family members. The opening ceremony for the Field of Honor will be on Saturday, July 3, and the display will run from July 3 to July 24. Pittsylvania County Sheriff s Office receiving reports of new scam threat

In recent days, the the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints from citizens in the county reporting the receipt of calls from scammers identifying themselves as employees of the office. Additionally, the scammers are telling the would-be victims they have legal process signed by a local circuit court judge. The scammer then directs the would-be victim to proceed to their financial institution for further instructions. This is a scam. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office does not call citizens for phone payments nor would we. Payments for court cost, fines, etc. are collected by the issuing court of record.
