DANVILLE, Va. â Through a budding partnership between Piedmont Access to Health Services (PATHS) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Massey Cancer Center Director Dr. Robert Winn is on a mission to make Danville healthier by addressing racial disparities systemic in screening of preventable cancers.
During a seminar Thursday afternoon in the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History auditorium, public health and community leaders from Danville, Pittsylvania County and Richmond engaged in a meeting of the minds as they discussed Project COALESCE, a two-year collaborative effort funded by Pfizer and the American Cancer Society to address race-related barriers to colorectal and cervical cancer screening in Danville, Martinsville, Brunswick and Richmond.
CHATHAM, Va. â After a nearly two-year hiatus, the VA-Carolina Classic Chevy Club finally brought its signature cruise-in back to downtown Chatham Saturday evening, attracting a massive crowd from all over the region.
More than 1,800 people in 635 classic automobiles arrived in Chatham on Saturday from as far as NoVa, South Carolina and Florida. We are really excited about this, said Wayne Roach, owner of Wayne s Cabinet Shop in Pittsylvania County. Roach has been a member of the VA-Carolina Classic Chevy Club since 1999. He is the proud owner of a white 1967 Chevy Chevelle. Everybody is excited. We got an impressive crowd today, Roach said. They come from everywhere. They come from Florida, from up northâthe boys get together and come on down. We got people that come from Richmond, too. From Lexington, Lynchburg, Greensboro, Winston-Salem. We have such a wonderful time doing it.

Roanoke City Council will hold a public hearing about the city’s proposed budget and taxes. The proposed spending plan is $307 million, an increase of $9.6 million. The budget address seven priorities, including education, community safety, human services and more. The hearing begins at 7 p.m. You can register to comment by contacting the city clerk’s office by noon.
Pittsylvania/Danville Health District plans to vaccinate children for COVID-19

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Pittsylvania/Danville Health District is planning ways to make it easy for adolescents to get vaccinated for the coronavirus.
Health Director Dr. Scott Spillman said hosting mass vaccination events and bringing local pharmacies to schools are just some of the ideas leaders are discussing to help get children vaccinated.
But he said time is a constraint and added that he hopes to get at least one dose of the vaccine in some students’ arms before school is out by June.
