On Tuesday, Jan. 19, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Board of Selectors met virtually to debate and then vote for the men who will make up the Class of 2021, and the results of that day-long session are to be announced this Saturday, the night before Super Bowl LV, during the broadcast of the NFL Honors Show on CBS.
One of the items of business was a yay or nay vote on Bill Nunn in the Hall of Fame s Contributor category. A bylaws change to the selection process was instituted in August 2014 by which a Contributor – defined as an individual who has made outstanding contributions to professional football in capacities other than playing or coaching – will automatically be included among the annual list of finalists for election.

New Kensington’s Willie Thrower was the first Black quarterback to play in the modern NFL. When Michigan State University recruited Thrower, he became the first Black quarterback on a Big Ten team. In 1953, he signed with the Chicago Bears. His statue can be seen entering Valley Viking Stadium at Valley High School.

When Pennsylvania partially abolished slavery in 1780, it established the Pittsburgh region between the Southern slave states and Northern free states as a destination for Black Americans looking for liberty.
What makes Pittsburgh such an attractive movie location?
Tax credits for film companies are just the beginning, says Dawn Keezer, director of the Pittsburgh Film Office.
“We have such a diversity of locations. Pittsburgh can look like any place in the world,” she says. “The only things we don’t have are a beach and a desert.
“We do New York better than New York,” she says. “We’ve been San Francisco, Paris, Ukraine and Atlanta.”
There’s the beauty of the city viewed from the West End Overlook or Mt. Washington and downtown’s blend of modern and historical architecture, she says. Drive for an hour and you have mountains, small towns, farmland and other attractive settings.
Many have likened the partnership of Georgia's two new senators to the solidarity of Martin Luther King Jr. and Jewish leaders in the civil rights movement.
