N.J. cops make arrest in shooting death of 51-year-old man

A Bound Brook man is accused of shooting and killing a 51-year-old New Brunswick man as he sat inside his car, authorities said.
The victim, Jose Medero, was found dead from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning by New Brunswick police officers on patrol near the city intersection of Seaman Street and Remsen Avenue, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators later determined that John Santanna, 20, shot Medero, authorities said.
Police did not offer a motive in the killing and it was not immediately clear whether Santanna had retained an attorney.

NJ students: Mount Saint Mary Academy students held Winter Coat Drive

At Mount Saint Mary Academy in Watchung, members of the H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Everywhere) Club, the Peer Ministry program and the Student Council held a Winter Coat Drive for St. Ann s Franciscan Soup Kitchen in Newark. Donna Toryak, director of Admissions and H.O.P.E. Club advisor, said the collections boxes were overflowing and the surrounding bags contained coats, hats, scarves and gloves for adults and children. The Sirianni family, including graduates Olivia Sirianni, Class of 2011, and Kate, Class of 2019, are volunteers there and alerted the school to the urgent need for winter wear at St. Ann’s.
