Lim Guan Eng wins appeal to reinstate award for damages for defamation by Perkasa

Justice Datuk Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal, who delivered the court s judgment, held that a public officer, whether he is suing in his official or personal capacity, is not prohibited from bringing an action for damages for defamation. Justice Nallini concurred with Justice Harmindar while Justice Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli dissented. The court awarded RM50,000 in costs to Lim, who is DAP secretary-general and former finance minister.

Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid set the date after lawyers RSN Rayer, representing Lim and his wife, and  A. Ruben Kumar,  representing Phang, applied to be given three months to examine the more than 1,000-page documents that were submitted when the matter came up for case management Friday. Deputy public prosecutors Syafiq Hasim and Ashrof Adrin Kamarul appeared for the prosecution.

More than 100 documents submitted to defense over corruption, money laundering case facing Lim, wife, Phang 18 Dec 2020 / 14:11 H. BUTTERWORTH: The prosecution has handed over more than 100 documents to the defence team in the corruption and money laundering case facing former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng ( pix), his wife Betty Chew Gek Cheng and businesswoman Phang Li Koon. Deputy public prosecutor Syafiq Hasim informed Sessions Court Judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid this during the case management today. He also told the court that the prosecution would submit five more documents, along with more than 100 other documents that had been submitted previously, in the form of hard copy, as requested by the defence.
