Ramasamy urges Education Ministry to let stateless kids attend school

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy has urged the Education Ministry to allow stateless children to attend government schools nationwide because education is a fundamental right. Without government schools, these stateless children can only turn to private or international schools, which is out of their reach. We should allow these children to be enrolled on compassionate grounds. The Federal gGovernment must make an immediate order to rescind the passport requirement and make it easier for children to receive an education, he said at a press conference in Komtar on Tuesday (Feb 2). This comes after claims from adoptive Malaysian parents of stateless children who have been pulled out of school following the reinstatement of a policy requiring children to produce passports to enrol in government schools.
