The City of Augusta Invites Local Business to Complete the Online Survey for the 2021 Disparity Study

Entrepreneurship program helps women and minority-owned businesses

COLUMBIA - City Manager John Glascock said an important goal for the city is to boost support for minority and women-owned businesses. Regional Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) has an entrepreneurship program that is working with 19 businesses owned by minorities and 26 owned by women.  It s known as the Supplier Diversity Program and it works with local businesses in Columbia, Rocheport, Centralia, Hallsville, Ashland, and surrounding areas near Boone County to assist Disadvantaged Business Enterprises according to the REDI web site. The purpose of this program is to help businesses grow and prosper by offering grant money assistance, coaching and financial advise.

A 31-year IDOT employee who has led the agency since 2019, Osman has been named recipient of the WTS Recognition Honorable Ray LaHood Award for his longtime efforts to promote diversity. “At IDOT, we’re committed to ensuring equitable opportunities across the board,” said Osman. “Whether it’s promoting women to leadership positions or ensuring women- and minority-owned businesses have a level playing field in our industry, we are dedicated to creating a culture of equality and a team that is representative of the full spectrum of our great state.”
