BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â On Wednesday, the Panama-Buena Vista School District announced it would resume reopening for in-person instruction.
According to a statement released by the district, the recent decline in the COVID-19 case rate in Kern County led to the decision to resume reopening phases tentatively starting on March 4th for transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and targeted junior high groups. Additional grades would tentatively begin on March 11th and 18th. A date for grades 7 and 8 have not been set.
December marks a changing of the guard for local school boards. Tuesday was a particularly momentous day after an election season that attracted more candidates and more attention.
New trustees were sworn in for the boards of the Kern Community College District, the Bakersfield City School District, Rosedale Union School District and Panama-Buena Vista School District.Â
Yovani Jimenez, 29, a case manager for Clinica Sierra Vista, was sworn into the board of the Kern Community College District. Jimenez will represent Area 6, a newly-rezoned area that stretches from south Kern County to Lake Isabella.
Jimenez is a resident and native of Lamont, the son of an immigrant and a first-generation college student. He says he knows first-hand the importance of education in the area he represents.
