Vaccinations underway for some of the public in rural Colorado COSTILLA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) Many counties in Southern Colorado are still preparing for the next phase phase in the vaccination process. However, some counties have already begun vaccinating the public, specifically their elderly population. Costilla County, a small county in the San Luis Valley, has already finished with the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and people ages 70+ are already receiving the vaccine. The first part of us moving onto the 70-year-old individuals started this past weekend this Sunday, said Paul Wertz with the Costilla County Public Health. Wertz and Costilla County Public Health along with Valley Wide Health Symptoms and local law enforcement organized a drive thru vaccination center for Costilla County s elderly.

The final day tests will be available there will be Saturday. The Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment issued a release Thursday announcing that the free community testing site, operated by MAKO Medical, will close. Testing at the Colorado State Fairgrounds will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. “The number of people seeking testing in Pueblo County has decreased to the point where we believe it is no longer necessary to operate two testing sites,” said Randy Evetts, director of the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, in the release. “We are confident the one testing site at the Colorado State Fairgrounds will be able to handle the current and future demand for testing in our community.”

(KRDO) According to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, a decrease in the number of people getting testing for COVID-19 has resulted in the closure of one of two free community testing sites operated by MAKO Medical in Pueblo County. The drive-thru testing site at the Pueblo Mall will close effective Monday, January 11. The last day of testing at the Pueblo Mall will be Saturday, January 9th. Pueblo Mall Testing Site, January 7th, 2021 Free community COVID-19 testing will continue at the Colorado State Fairgrounds. This testing site, also operated by MAKO, is drive-thru and is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no limit to the number of people who can be tested each day.
