AMT a Key Part of COVID Vaccination Push in Peoria

The most “average” American city was anything but when it came to its COVID-19 vaccine rollout.  In fact, Peoria, known as a meat-and-potatoes middle-America test market, has made ambitious moves toward stamping out the deadly virus in its area. With a metropolitan population of under 400,000, the Peoria area is often overshadowed by Chicago, three hours to the northeast. But in COVID-19 response Peoria has been a clear standout. “If Peoria County were a state, it would be No. 2 in the nation for total number of doses administered per 100,000 residents. That’s very impressive,” said Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker in a late-February press conference.

Hendrickson suggests getting vaccinated for mom this Mother s Day

Dalton Kemper/1470-100.3 WMBD PEORIA, Ill. Peoria City/County Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson Thursday encouraged area residents to honor mothers this weekend by getting vaccinated against COVID-19. “Often we recognize moms and mother figures for all they do for us especially the quality that they put the needs of others before themselves,” said Hendrickson. “This Mother’s Day it’s important to emulate mothers, and put the needs of our community before ourselves and get vaccinated.” 33.8% of the population of the tri-county of Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties has been vaccinated, according to Hendrickson. However, she says they are seeing many of the vaccine hesitancy issues being seen nationwide.

COVID vaccines: Metrics improve as Peoria ramps up vaccinating kids

PEORIA  Even though the Tri-County Area s positivity rate is higher than those of some counties in the state, Peoria is still in a good position to move into the bridge phase of reopening on May 14, said Monica Hendrickson, administrator of the Peoria City/County Health Department.  Now sitting close to 5%, the positivity rate and new cases of COVID-19 continue to drop  with the seven- and 14-day averages of new cases now at 125 and 141, respectively.  “That is down from the previous week, where we were at 157 and 178 cases as our seven- and 14-day averages, said Hendrickson during the weekly news briefing Thursday afternoon. “After two weeks, we are finally seeing an improvement in the number of ICU beds in use related to COVID-19. Our seven-day ICU usage has dropped from 44 in the last two weeks to 38 beds in use.
