Rideshare driver accused of assaulting woman in Boston

A rideshare driver is accused of assaulting a woman in Boston last week, according to authorities.
The woman entered the Boston Police Department’s District 14 station in Brighton on April 14 to report she was assaulted by the driver, officials said.
Detectives from the department’s Sexual Assault Unit were able to identify the driver, 25-year-old Sonpreet Singh, and obtain an arrest warrant for him, according to a statement from the department.
Singh went to District 14 three days later to surrender himself, police said. The Somerville man was arrested on a straight warrant for indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. He will be arraigned in Brighton District Court.
Mr. Singh is a hard-working young man with no prior criminal convictions and we look forward to a trial in this case, his attorney, Vikas Dhar, said Tuesday.
Uber also issued a statement of its own, saying, What s been reported is deeply troubling. The driver s access to the app has been removed and we thank local law enforcement for their swift action.
According to the police report, the victim had been out with a friend and requested an Uber to bring them home. Singh allegedly made suggestive comments throughout the ride, and when they arrived at the victim s home and she went to get out of the vehicle, he allegedly reached into the back seat and grabbed her breasts.

HE WAS DRIVING THIS LEXUS FOR UBER THE NIGHT OF APRIL 8, WHEN HE PICKED UP TWO WOMEN WHO TOLD INVESTIGATORS THEY HAD A FEW DRINKS AND WERE HEADING HOME. THE POLICE REPORT STATES SINGH MADE SOME SUGGESTIVE COMMENTS DURING THE RIDE, AND THEN GRABBED THE VICTIMS’ BREASTS BEFORE DROPPING HER OFF. HE TURNED HIMSELF IN ON SUNDAY. BOSTON (AP) A 25-year-old Uber driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a female passenger, Boston police said Tuesday.
Sonpreet Singh, of Somerville, surrendered to police on Sunday after a woman told detectives on April 14 that she d been assaulted by a driver for a ride-hailing service, police said.
Singh is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on a charge of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.
NBC 10 Boston reports Singh had made suggestive comments throughout the ride to the victim and then reached into the back seat and grabbed her breasts. The station reports she then punched him in the face before exiting the vehicle.
