State Auditor Rob Sand is alleging Gov. Kim Reynolds violated the state s self-promotion law by appearing in a video last year to promote mask wearing during the pandemic, but Reynolds says the public awareness campaign falls under the law s exemption for disaster emergencies.
Sand s office released a special report Thursday detailing its investigation into a television, radio, newspaper and digital advertising campaign called Step Up, Stop the Spread. Reynolds office rolled out the campaign in November, just after the governor issued a limited statewide mask mandate as coronavirus cases spiked to their highest levels.
