Bastille Day pop-up event to be held in Mequon July 17 MEQUON, Wis. (CBS 58) While Milwaukee s traditional Bastille Days event remains canceled for 2021, a Bastille Day pop-up festival will soon be held in Mequon. The East Town Association canceled this year s Bastille Days festival in Milwaukee s Cathedral Square Park due to COVID concerns, but l’Alliance Française decided to keep the tradition alive in Mequon.  This year s pop-up will be held Saturday, July 17, from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. at the Foxtown Annex, located at 6375 W. Mequon Road.  A press release says the event will include the famous beignets and cultural tent, food and drink by Foxtown Brewing, Foxtown Heritage Meats, North Shore Boulangerie, El Taco Feliz, Tatay s, Paleteria Yayo and Pop s BBQ, and performances by Milwaukee Ballet and Fred Astaire Dance Studio.

James, The Chronicle A new artist residency program would focus on Bay Area creatives inspired by Vincent van Gogh, tied to an ongoing art attraction of the Dutch Post-Impressionist. “Immersive van Gogh” plans to launch three one-month residencies at the SVN West venue, where the projected art attraction is installed through Sept. 6 and had presold more than 120,000 tickets before its March opening. The program is accepting applications now through May 9, organizers announced Tuesday, April 27.

NEWS Ceremony held in Turkey to mark Gallipoli landings A wreath-laying ceremony was held in western Canakkale province early on Sunday to commemorate the 106th anniversary of the landing of foreign troops on Turkish soil during World War I. Due to coronavirus measures, the wreath-laying ceremony with limited participants was held instead of a dawn service with the usual participation of thousands of Australians and New Zealanders coming to commemorate their ancestors every April 25. April 25 is also known as ANZAC Day in Australia a significant national holiday that honors the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought and died in Canakkale on Turkey’s western coast in 1915. Australia and New Zealand commemorate the event as Gallipoli.
