The alignment somewhat follows the existing Bells Pocket Rd, Stockland Queensland general manager David Laner said. It joins in at the existing interchange and it joins back up at the existing part of the Bells Creek arterial towards the Aura business park. It helps the area because it makes it far more connectable and visible to the Bruce Highway, it really does open up that southern front. Mr Laner said that the wet weather hampered construction slightly. Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said traffic volumes were expected to increase on the Peak Downs Highway.
“Just over 3km of road will be widened to 9m, with one-metre shoulders, to increase separation between heavy vehicles, caravans and light vehicles,” Mr Bailey said.
“Widening three sections will enable safer overtaking opportunities, so drivers don’t take unnecessary risks.

A Federal MP has accused the Queensland Government of squandering millions of taxpayer dollars after sections of road in Far North Queensland s Cape York washed away in flooding.

Whitsunday MP Amanda Camm will call on the State Government to bring forward $750,000 for a business case on the duplication of Mackay Bucasia Rd.
Ms Camm said she would soon launch a petition calling on the funds to be fast tracked to this year’s state budget after meeting with Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson on Thursday.
“(Cr Williamson) shares the concerns of the access in and out of the Northern Beaches and in particular, the growing population that we are seeing there as well,” Ms Camm said.
“Our discussion was around a co-ordinated approach of advocacy.
“There is planning funding that has been allocated in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
