The story you might have heard goes like this: A group of regular-Joe traders on Reddit took down a hedge fund by bidding up the stock price of the sleepy video-game store GameStop. Their righteous revolution was briefly thwarted last week when Robinhood, the popular brokerage app, restricted trading because it was secretly in cahoots with the hedge funds. This was an outrage: It was as if, in the matchup between David and Goliath, the magical slingshot stopped firing because it was secretly controlled by the giant. So, right-thinking people on TV and social media hailed the common day traders, demanded prison for various Robinhood executives, and generally extolled the salutary populism of stock speculation and day-trading.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Monday said she was a sexual assault survivor, a disclosure she made during a strikingly personal and harrowing recounting of her experiences during the pro-Trump riot at the U.S. Capitol last month.
“I’m a survivor of sexual assault,” Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said during an Instagram Live appearance, her voice wavering with emotion. “And I haven’t told many people that in my life. But when we go through trauma, trauma compounds on each other.”
Speaking to more than 150,000 viewers – a number that fluctuated up and down slightly through the evening – Ocasio-Cortez, 31, walked viewers through the days leading up to the riot as well as the day of it.

In an emotional broadcast on Monday night, New York House member Ocasio-Cortez said she was harassed by those she identified as fans of former President Donald Trump for days before the January 6 incident and was warned by other members of Congress to be “careful” on the day of the rally.
That day, Ocasio-Cortez said on an Instagram Live broadcast, she hid behind a bathroom door in her office, fearing for her life as Trump supporters sought to stop the certification of President Joe Biden’s election win.

On Monday, 14 members of Congress wrote to House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) urging her to call on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to immediately retract and apologize for a tweet in which she falsely said to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) “you almost had me murdered” and suggested he was “trying to get me killed.”
The letter, which mirrors one sent to Pelosi last Thursday by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), is signed by both Roy and 13 of his House colleagues. It calls it “completely unacceptable behavior for a Member of Congress to make this kind of scurrilous charge” against another congressman.

GameStop shares are back on their rocket, after millennial trading app Robinhood decided it would, after all, let its customers ride the stock all the way to the moon or to a fiery crash. Alas, for Robinhood, it may already be too late.
