Report reveals Trump Justice Department subpoenaed Apple for metadata of lawmakers

The U.S. Justice Department subpoenaed Apple Inc. to turn over metadata about at least two Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, the New York Times has revealed.
The record seizures took place under the Trump administration in 2017 and early 2018, the Times reported on Thursday. Prosecutors working under then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions sought the metadata as part of an attempt to identify the sources behind leaks that detailed contacts between Russia and the Trump administration.
The prosecutors reportedly obtained metadata about Representative Adam Schiff, who was the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee at the time and is now the panel’s chairman.
