The top legislative priority for the Kentucky Association of Counties and League of Cities remains raising the state’s tax on a gallon of gasoline by a dime to increase funding to improve highway infrastructure, but it remains to be seen if there’s support in Frankfort to make that happen.
Ninth District state Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke won’t support a hike to the gas tax, noting gas prices are already on the rise and many people are struggling financially due to the pandemic.

There could be at least three days of in-person early-voting in Kentucky as soon as the 2022 elections and local legislators support the legislation to that effect that passed the House last week.
The three days of no-excuse early voting would include a Saturday, as required in House Bill 574 and state Senator Whitney Westerfield says he warmed up to supporting early voting after seeing increased turnout last year.
The Senate will likely begin considering the legislation this week with a committee hearing.
Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says the House also voted to create an Election Integrity Committee to be sure all elections are fair.

Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke has been selected to serve on multiple committees during the 2021 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
He will serve as chair the Budget Review Subcommittee on Personnel, Public Retirement and Finance. He will also serve as a member of the Appropriations and Revenue, Agriculture, Education, Natural Resources and Energy, and Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection committees. The short session is set to begin on January 5.
Dossett says, “I’m humbled by the trust that House Leadership has to allow me to continue serving on the Appropriation and Revenue Committee, which shapes our Commonwealth’s budget priorities. I will strive to ensure that our citizen’s tax dollars are spent wisely with great thought.”
