A state private investigator has been arrested in Brunswick County on child abduction charges, according to a press release from the Onslow County Sheriff s Office.
On January 11, 2021, deputies received a report that an infant had been taken from the child’s grandmother who lives in Holly Ridge. During the investigation, it was revealed that a couple hired an attorney to help gain custody of the child and the infant had been taken by a woman named Melanie Lynne Keene, an N.C. licensed private investigator hired by the attorney representing the couple.
In the release, deputies say Keene took custody of the child and transported the child to the couple, leaving the child in their care. The investigation also revealed Keene had taken the child under the pretext that an Ex-Parte Hearing for Temporary Emergency Custody would take place January 12.
A registered sex offender was arrested last week for failing to comply with his sex offender requirements by not notifying authorities of an address change. Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Capt. Gene Caison said Steven Earl Taylor, 34, reported to law enforcement he was living at 2483 Jolly Roger Drive in Supply as part of his requirements as a registered sex offender. But after weeks of routine sex offender checks by sheriff’s office patrol deputies, Taylor could not be found at the Jolly Roger home since Feb. 7.

NEW BERN, N.C. (WECT) - A Shallotte man will spend over five years in prison on federal drug and firearm charges, according to the U.S. Attorneyâs Office of the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Anthony Junior Bell, 50, was sentenced on Wednesday after previously pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), possession with intent to distribute a quantity of cocaine and 28 grams or more of cocaine base (crack), and possession of a firearm by a felon.
